Started touching-up the left panel more. :) Proportion fixes for Trahearne. Also a higher-resolution version than earlier.

Earlier post below:

Ahh! I’ve been making steady progress on The Harbinger’s Path, and I’m really excited to finish the first chapter – partially because it will be so satisfying when I can finally call it done, but (maybe even more so) because I am SUPER excited to work on what happens next!

I have the layout for most of the next chapter drawn out, and I am looking forward so much to drawing these. It’s hard to stop myself from working on them now, but I know I need to finish the first chapter before I can work on the pages after again.

Below is a small preview of a scene from the next chapter – one of several scenes I’m dying to progress!

“Impale” Work-in-Progress | March 21, 2025

Corveil and Arquel. Corveil stabs Corveil under a red moon. They are below an archway, greenery growing around them, with water streaming by their feet.
Corveil and Arquel

There seems to be a theme between this and the last post. Haha.

This was a sketch idea I wanted to jot down yesterday. I started trying out some vague decorative background ideas. Still deciding which way to take it. Other than the general pose, I didn’t plan the rest out. It felt nice to just scribble-wander for a bit. Backgrounds are secretly one of my favorite things to paint – but I oddly don’t end up showing too many here. Maybe that’ll change this year!

Initial sketch. Messy line drawing showing Arquel impaling Corveil.
Initial sketch.

There are some things about the sketch I like better than the current version – mainly the angle of Arquel’s head. The way it was changed probably reads slightly more clearly – I think – though I like the intensity of the sketch. That might also just be by virtue of being a sketch, though. That sketchy energy! Why sketching is still probably my favorite part of the drawing process.

Earlier background idea. The two characters float in front of a red moon.

Current version (in-progress). A forested scene with three sylvari characters and thorned vines winding throughout the background. One character stabs his Mordrem Saber through another character, while the third character summons thorns in the background.
Current version (in-progress) | From left to right: Caydren, Landis, and Lorcan

Had an idea with my sylvari characters I wanted to jot down! It turned into a book cover composition, somehow. It’d be reversed if I used it as one – but I mainly wanted to sketch my three characters together, since I haven’t drawn them all together in an illustration in a while.

The left character is my Nightmare Court elementalist, Caydren; the middle character is my sylvari reaper/necromancer, Landis; and the right character is my Nightmare Courtier ranger/druid, Lorcan (who has yet to have his outfit added).

My Nightmare Courtier ranger/druid’s favorite pet Iboga, which he affectionately named “Mordremoth.”

Crop from a digital painting where one character is holding the other by the chin. Flame-like wisps emerge from his open palm, snaking under the other's jaw and throat.
Detail crop (in-progress).

Wanted to post some progress on this illustration I’ve been fiddling around with! Corveil and Arquel again here.

The loose idea behind this one is, “Not your voice, not your vision.” This is also another of the ideas that I sketched a while back, and didn’t add to in a while – though not as long ago as the previous “Don’t Listen” illustration. This idea looks like it was first sketched last year, in May 2024. I think this was another one that wasn’t turning out as I liked at the time, and I set it aside to prioritize other things.

While sometimes that results in a pile of ideas which risk remaining untouched and unresolved, for this and “Don’t Listen,” these paintings surprisingly benefited from being set aside.

Full composition where we can see both characters in a forest-like environment. There are winding trees and what appears to be a fallen stump. Both characters stand in shallow water, painted a crystalline blue.
The full composition (in-progress).

Here’s how the full composition looks – haven’t added clothing yet. Or more hands, haha. There will be both! I promise.

Same crop as at the top of the post, only cropped more narrowly.
Another crop!

And one more detail crop that’s more narrow.

Added a few more thoughts.
