Laranthir of the Wild – Paintover Warm-up | April 23, 2026

Laranthir of the Wild, one of the sylvari NPC's from Guild Wars 2. Portrait practice painting, about waist-high. Laranthir is painted wearing the "Vigil's Honor" armor set.

My time has been occupied by trying to squeeze in as many final edits to the book as I’m able to – which has involved some painting, and made me feel like like doing a small paintover of one of my older Laranthir artworks today. I’m not sure if I’ve ever posted the original before, because I wasn’t happy with how it turned out. Above is the paintover from this morning, and the original version is in the full post below:

Laranthir of the Wild - original version. There are proportional differences with the 2026 revised version.

My problems with the original are mainly I found the pose disinteresting. When looking at it again this morning, I tried to correct some proportional errors in the original, which I think moderately helped the pose feel slightly less stagnant.

I don’t consider the paintover “finished,” but I’m not sure I’ll take this one further, because there is another Laranthir painting I would like to finish sometime. :D And that I think has a much better foundational pose.

But that is for the future, after books are printed!

Email Updates (Mailing List)

Want to stay updated, but wish there was an easier way to keep up with this site? I've set up an "email updates" or "mailing list" for this very reason. Check it out below!

New sign-ups currently receive a free PDF for The Harbinger's Path Chapter 1, from my Trahearne & Malyck GW2 fan comic. This version is exclusive to this email list, containing bonus art not currently available anywhere else.

I might change the sign-up bonus in the future, so if you're interested in seeing this PDF, consider joining soon!

You can unsubscribe anytime. Your inbox, your rules!

Or, perhaps RSS is more your style? There exists an RSS for this sketchblog, as well as an RSS for comic projects (currently page updates).

My aim is setting up ways to connect that's more stable than the whims of social platforms. If this interests you, consider signing-up.

Either way, take care and I hope to see you again!
