Sketchpage | February 12, 2025

A few recent sketches of Corveil and Kurt I just wanted to post for myself. :) With Corveil, I was trying out some hairstyle options for him. I started with a longer hairstyle (which you can see in the top-left initial sketch), because while shorter hair probably suits his character better, I tend to lengthen his hair when I draw him purely because longer hair tends to be more fun for me to draw, haha. I was also doodling one of his outfits here, that I’d been fiddling with in other sketches. I think I semi-recently added the orange ribbon around his waist, at the time of sketching this. With Kurt, I think I just wanted to draw the tails of his jacket (this sketchpage is from the end of December, a little while ago now).

One thing I want to try and do more this year is post a little more about my characters – I’m not sure if it’s a recent thing or if I’ve always been a little like this, but I’m always reticent about sharing info about them for some reason. I think I’m just a bit that way in general – I struggle a bit with preferring to mostly keep to myself. Which is probably why social media has never felt natural to me. But, I shouldn’t have to be concerned about things like that when it’s my own space here on this blog. :) I think this place is a good way for me to unlearn some probably-unhelpful practices I picked up from mainly using social media for sharing art over the past few years, instead of my own space. (In hindsight, I probably should have been doing both, instead of one or the other.) Mainly to try and be a little less guarded here when it comes to expressing myself, because I have never been entirely comfortable doing so on social media. I’m not sure the reason, maybe because it feels more public. I could probably do a Duskbirds page exploring this issue, haha. Well, I don’t think the reason is too important. Probably something that’s mostly in my mind, and likely not noticeable outside my overthinking.

Site Updates: February 6, 2025

For site updates, I think I’ll make at most one post per month, and continuously add any additional updates during the month to this monthly post. This way, I am not clogging the blog with posts about web maintenance, haha.

Preview images added

Image previews should now show when sharing any page from this sketchblog (as well as Duskbirds and the G Gundam translation site) on platforms that support it! I’ve tested it with Discord and BlueSky so far, which seem to work as intended.

Adjusted link text

  • Bolded links for improved legibility
  • Duskbirds: Fixed site title from being bolded unintentionally

I guess I’ll add the Duskbird updates here for now, too, as I don’t have a place for it on that site (and I’m not convinced it’s worth it to have a separate updates page for the comic site. Thinking I’ll use my sketchblog as my “catch-all” site for miscellaneous odds and ends, in addition to the art or written posts).

July 18, 2025

Adding to this page, as I don’t feel like making an entirely new updates post for small site maintenance like these:

  • Did several miscellaneous updates to the backend of the site.

July 20, 2025

Small UI additions to The Harbinger’s Path comic site:

  • Added custom page numbers to each page’s site title.

Domon Kasshu Sketch | February 6, 2025

I’ve had this sketch of Domon Kasshu sitting around for a while – maybe posting it will hasten my finishing it. Or, maybe this will be the final version of it. Who knows!

I’ve had a number of G Gundam artworks in various stages of completion from over the years, and I hope I can finish some of them soon!

Malyck Pencil Sketches | February 5, 2025

Finished pencil drawing of Malyck.
Finished pencil drawing of Malyck.

Edit: February 6, 2025

I decided to refine the Malyck drawing a bit more, seen above! I since wrote on the following page, and there was quite a bit of see-through. I tried to remove it as best I could digitally, but it makes me consider acquiring a pencil board in the future. There is a Hobonichi pencil board I was eyeing the other day, and looking for an excuse to justify its purchase… haha.

Anyway, since I ended up adding more to it today, I changed the date on the drawing to today’s.

Original post below:

Did a warm-up sketch of Malyck earlier today, initially with the intention of inking it. I’m very out of practice with clean pencil drawing – I mainly use one for jotting a quick note or a rough sketch idea, nowadays – but I was enjoying using it a lot today. And ended up adding more to it in pencil instead, which may or may not have been to its detriment. I’ll try an ink test another time. :)

I was going to leave the sketch like this, before deciding to draw on it a little more and ending up with the sketch at the top of this post.

I love working with mechanical pencils, and it used to be the medium I used the most often. I still use one (the Staedtler 0.3 mm drafting pencil is a thing of beauty, and incredibly durable), but it’s more infrequent than I’d like. I mainly use it for jotting down quick ideas, and not finished drawings. Maybe I’ll try doing some cleaner sketches this year.
