“Bloody Prince Thorn” Sketches + Timelapse (GW2) | October 31, 2026

Loose portrait drawing of "Bloody Prince Thorn" from Guild Wars 2. He stands scowling toward the viewer, arms crossed. Petulant.

Happy Halloween! What better way to celebrate than with some Guild Wars 2-themed artwork?

I was feeling sentimental over one of my favorite NPC’s in Guild Wars 2, and was inspired to sketch him a few times this month. Above is a warm-up sketch from the 30th. In addition to a warm-up practice, there were a few other things I was practicing in this one. One was a new nib I wanted to try again (the Wacom “brush” nib), and I’ve also been meaning to test if I can still videocapture simple drawings with my current setup, or if it’d be too laggy.

The test seems to have worked! Here’s the timlapse process below (condensed down to 25 secs):

“Bloody Prince Thorn” Timelapse Process

I like how this nib uses less brush pressure when I use it. I used to use the felt nibs, and switched to the default plastic nib around a year ago. I used to prefer that friction-feel, but after doing more lineart, I seem to prefer less friction now. The brush nib is even softer, and it felt natural drawing with it here.

Sketch from earlier this month

Below is an earlier sketch from this month, also of “Bloody Prince Thorn,” or “Edrick Thorn”:

Loose drawing of "Bloody Prince Thorn" from Guild Wars 2 scowling smirkingly from above.Like the drawing at the top of this post, this is another construction-drawing-from-imagination practice. I’ve probably mentioned it elsewhere on this sketchblog, about how when I’m aimless sketching, I often default to unflattering angles of faces. I think my mind takes it up as some masochistic challenge.

Bonus: 2D Animation Warm-up

From this past Thursday, when I felt like warming up with some 2d animation-sketching. It’s Trahearne!
