Duskbirds Diorama Illustration (WIP) | March 7, 2026

Illustration of a "duskbirds" structure drawn in a diorama-like style.
Duskbirds Illustration | Work-in-progress

I was chatting about PLCAF with my friend, and remarking about how my table is likely going to be more bare than the average. She then suggested I bring a few prints, which I hadn’t considered. I’d only been thinking about potential books/mini-zines I could bring, since this is an indie comics convention.

I then went looking in my files for potential considerations, and remembered I have this Duskbirds-related illustration I’d started a while back. It’s about 90% finished. I could likely take it to a polished state this weekend if I carve out the time for it.

I also realized among the many Duskbirds comics I have noted down in sketch form, I had started 2 a while back that are about 70% of the way there. Contemplating finishing these for the mini-zine – as I tried out using color for these two, and I think they went in an interesting direction for the comic. But I also have to by wary lest my ambition reach further than the reality of my capabilities (or of logistical time constraints).

Anyway! Need to format the books first – that’s the main priority. Aiming to submit the print order this weekend!

Guild Wars 2 Commission: Tarcisio | February 25, 2026

Digital painting of a custom Guild Wars 2 mesmer virtuoso. He levitates above the waters of the Lily of the Elon while surrounded by mesmeric magic.
Finished illustration commission; mesmeric magic version.

Commission for Skylark finished for this past Valentine’s Day, as a surprise gift for their partner! Above is the mesmer virtuoso, “Tarcisio Chiavetta,” who is Damedarosa’s character! (Names mentioned here with permission.)

Detail crop focusing on Tarcisio's figure.

Above and below are detail crops.

Detail crop focusing on Tarcisio's figure (about thigh-up).

Process sheets below!

Sketch 01: Initial sketch ideas.

For this piece, we began with a general range for the budget. I was given a fair bit of artistic freedom, and I offered to draw a series of thumbnail during the initial sketches, across a range of complexities within their budget. This way, the client could choose the idea which both appealed to them most, and matched their desired budget. The original sheet lists quotes underneath each thumbnail idea, which I’ve omitted here for the client’s privacy.

Sketch 02: Revised sketch, pose block-out

First-round revision after the sketch idea was chosen.

Sketch 03: Revised sketch, background block-out

Here is blocking out the background more before the painting stage began.

Finished illustration commission; character-focused version.

And here is the finished piece once more! This illustration has two versions – a “mesmeric magic” version at the top of the post, and this version above which places the focus more on Tarcisco’s figure.

Thanks so much again to Skylark for this commission!

Warband Commission | January 7, 2026

Illustration of a charr warband sitting around a tea table in the Red Duck Teahouse in Cantha. There is a festive Wintersday atmosphere. I can finally show this commission! :D

I wanted to also show a few detail close-ups; I’ll update this post at a later point, when I have time to crop and export those!

For now, two three WIP process pages are below. Some text is omitted, as aside from Achyrd, the rest of the characters for this one wish to remain anonymous!

Illustration Work-in-Progress | February 27, 2025

Crop from a digital painting where one character is holding the other by the chin. Flame-like wisps emerge from his open palm, snaking under the other's jaw and throat.
Detail crop (in-progress).

Wanted to post some progress on this illustration I’ve been fiddling around with! Corveil and Arquel again here.

The loose idea behind this one is, “Not your voice, not your vision.” This is also another of the ideas that I sketched a while back, and didn’t add to in a while – though not as long ago as the previous “Don’t Listen” illustration. This idea looks like it was first sketched last year, in May 2024. I think this was another one that wasn’t turning out as I liked at the time, and I set it aside to prioritize other things.

While sometimes that results in a pile of ideas which risk remaining untouched and unresolved, for this and “Don’t Listen,” these paintings surprisingly benefited from being set aside.

Full composition where we can see both characters in a forest-like environment. There are winding trees and what appears to be a fallen stump. Both characters stand in shallow water, painted a crystalline blue.
The full composition (in-progress).

Here’s how the full composition looks – haven’t added clothing yet. Or more hands, haha. There will be both! I promise.

Same crop as at the top of the post, only cropped more narrowly.
Another crop!

And one more detail crop that’s more narrow.

Added a few more thoughts.

Moved all the edits log to the end of this post to make the post read more easily. :)

Original post below:

Here’s an illustration where the original sketch was from a long time ago – November 2023, in fact! I’ll add a crop of that version at the end of this post.

This painting has a loose idea behind it, but it is primarily meant as one of the front portraits I seem to do of my characters every now and again. I believe with this one, the initial drive was to paint Corveil’s current design, which I had been tweaking here and there at the time. He originally had hair on the darker side, which I decided to change because too many of my characters were looking similar. I tried him with much lighter hair for a while, which I thought worked better for him, but didn’t completely fit.

For a bit now, I’ve been drawing him with something in-between – still fairly light, but a more warm grey or ashy, light brown. Though it’s probably not noticeable in this piece, specifically, since I did add more shadows for contrast. Haha.

I have a few alternate and earlier versions of this one I’m still considering, which I’ll add below:

Earlier in-progress version before adding more contrast.
Earlier in-progress version before adding more contrast.

This is also an even earlier version, before I added more contrast. I sort of like the softer look here.

The initial idea and some additional thoughts in the full post below:
